The Shapes

Get your children to learn the shapes with these brilliant flashcards. There are 8 different shapes all together: circle, square, diamond, rectangle, oval, heart, star and triangle.

Why Shape Flashcards Work

Children love holding flashcards. They can touch them, look at them closely, and practise saying the shape names. This makes learning shapes much easier and more fun.

Your little ones will enjoy pointing at each shape and saying the name. You can help them trace the shapes with their finger too.

How to Use Your Shape Flashcards

Daily Practice Show your children one card at a time. Ask them to say the shape name. Start with just a few shapes and add more as they learn.

Shape Hunt Hold up a flashcard and ask your child to find that shape around the house. Windows are rectangles, plates are circles, and so on.

Memory Games Lay out 3 or 4 cards. Let your child look at them, then turn them over. Can they remember which shapes you showed them?

Fun Bingo Game Here’s a special tip: if you print out two sets of flashcards, you can play bingo! Give your child one set to spread out. You hold up cards from your second set. When they see the matching shape, they cover it with their hand. Keep playing until all shapes are covered.

Perfect For

Teachers: Use these in your classroom for quick shape lessons. Children can take turns being the teacher and showing cards to their friends.

Parents: Keep a set handy for those few minutes before dinner or in the car. Learning shapes has never been this simple.

Home-schoolers: Add these to your maths lessons or use them as a fun break between subjects.

Getting Started

Print out the flashcards on thick paper or card and laminate them, if you can. This makes them last longer with lots of little hands touching them.

You might want to cut them out and keep them in a special box. Children love having their own set of “shape cards” to look after.

Start with just 2 or 3 shapes at first. Once your child knows these well, add more shapes one at a time.

Making It Fun

Let your child hold the cards and be the teacher. They can show you the shapes and you can pretend to learn from them.

Make up silly stories about the shapes. “Triangle went for a walk and met Square…” Your child will love adding to the story.

Praise your child when they get shapes right. If they make a mistake, gently show them the correct answer and let them try again.

Shape flashcards are one of the simplest ways to help your child learn. Download them, print them out, and start having fun with shapes today!
